It is sad that every election within the greatest nation on earth, with the greatest political system in history, must come down to voting for the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately, as in 1992 and 1996, sometimes the greater of two evils wins.
There needs to be a third party and a third party candidate so that we may choose the best candidate rather than merely the lesser of two evils. For this reason I am announcing the formation of the Common Sense Party and officially throwing my hat into the ring as a candidate for President of the United States.
This is the Common Sense Party's platform:
The War on Islamofascism - As your president, I will immediately declare martial law in Iraq and inform the Iraqi people that all U.S. soldiers will leave their country when not a single U.S. soldier leaves in a body bag. Until then, curfew begins at sundown, ends at sunrise and enjoy your occupation. As for the rest of the Muslim extremists, since America is under attack from soldiers of many nations, it is important to ignore the lines on the Middle Eastern map. Therefore, if another American city is attacked by radical Islamic terrorists, the United States will commence bombing of Mecca. After that, if an American city is attacked, you can kiss Medina goodbye.
Abortion - While I personally oppose aborting a child, I believe each state should be allowed to vote on whether or not a woman can choose to purposely miscarry. After that, I believe no abortion should be performed after the second trimester unless the mother's health is in jeopardy.
Taxation - A flat federal tax of fifteen percent across the board. Tax revenues will be used for national security and infrastructure.
Gun Control - The 2nd amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms. Owning a gun should not be a crime. Using a gun to commit a crime should be a crime that carries a harsh penalty. It should fall on police departments across the country to patrol the streets and catch anyone who uses a gun to commit a crime rather than sit in their comfortable squad cars using radar guns to increase state and local revenues.
Health Care - Health care is the responsibility of the individual and not the federal government.
The War on Drugs - The selling, importation and manufacture of drugs remains a crime with tough sentencing guidelines while drug use is decriminalized. This will ensure that dangerous drugs will be difficult to obtain but our courts and prisons will not be overburdened by the victimless crime of drug use. However, the penalty for crimes committed while on drugs will be doubled.
Environment - The environment will be respected at all times except when environmental protection conflicts with the protection and benefit of mankind. I place the prosperity of the human race well above that of plants and animals.
International Trade - America is the crossroads of the global economy. We will conduct free trade with all willing nations except those corrupt regimes that violate the human rights of their people.
Campaign Finance Reform - Lobbying is legal bribery. I believe it should be illegal to contribute money in exchange for influence and votes. If a politician is unable to weigh the pros and cons of an issue without assistance from someone who has a dog in the fight then they shouldn't have been elected to begin with.
Affirmative Action - It is unfair to discriminate and that is exactly what affirmative action is. It is discrimination in the present to make up for discrimination in the past. I am against affirmative action because, as our parents always said, two wrongs don't make a right. Race, color, and creed should no longer be a factor.
Illegal Immigration - First of all, build a wall. Second, if you have come into this country illegally you have committed a crime and for that crime your punishment is that you can never attain U.S. citizenship. If you are convicted of a felony, you will serve your sentence and will be deported the minute your time has been served. However, you will be allowed to stay in America as long as you abide by all the same rules as Americans such as obtaining drivers licenses, car insurance and responsibility for your own health care. As it stands it is better to be an illegal alien in America than it is to be an American. As your president that will change. Lastly, English will be the official language.
Stem Cell Research - Nobody, and I mean nobody, is against finding cures for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or any other disease for that matter. So when you hear political ads telling you that this person is against the miracle cure known as stem cells, it is the same as telling you that a politician hates children and the elderly. It's simply not true. If some taxpayers are against experimentation on a human embryo for moral reasons they should not be forced to hand over their hard earned money. Furthermore, if embryonic stem cell research is the godsend it has been made out to be then private enterprise would be more eager and more efficient in regards to research.
Death Penalty - Yes. God, yes. Not only for murder but for attempted murder, as well.
These are my views and this is what I stand for. I doubt if you'll get a more clearcut platform from Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator Barack Obama or Senator John McCain. America is the greatest nation in the history of the world but it could be even better. With a little common sense, it will be.
